Custom print covers are a lot of fun to design. This process is a collaboration between author and designer. It begins when you contact me and express interest. I’ll send you a quick questionnaire via email that will help me become acquainted with your book’s content, characters, genre and any personal preferences you may have.
Usually a phone discussion ensues and I may need to contact the printer you’ve chosen so I can be certain the work I do is formatted properly for their needs (they tend to be fussy folks). As a former newspaper and magazine editor, I have LOTS of experience dealing with printers.
Once we have a mutual understanding of the direction of the cover, I will start to work. I may email you previews of images that I’m considering for your comment. I’ll do a rough mock-up of a design and email it to you for feedback. Based on that feedback, I’ll complete the final design and send you a high resolution paperback cover file, a matching eBook cover file, and several low resolution web-appropriate files of the front cover that you may find useful in promoting your book on websites, blogs, Facebook, etc….
Prices are quoted individually and based on the cost of images I must purchase in order to design your cover plus the amount of time it takes to complete. Once I have a good understanding of what you want, I will quote you a final price. Payment is via PayPal.
The amount of time a cover design takes varies depending on how complex the design – particularly how many images are involved and how much manipulation they require. Most print covers take about a week to complete after the mock-up is approved. If you have a specific deadline, please let me know ASAP.
I work with quality stock photography and illustrations, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
